Sugar Land is a large city in southeastern Texas. It is positioned in the Houston Metropolitan Area in Fort Bend County. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 88,177 people living in Sugar Land, Texas as of 2016. It is the largest city in Fort Bend County.

Sugar Land is located in an area of Texas that was originally a land grant given to Stephen F. Austin for the purpose of settling 300 American families. The soil in the area was very fertile, helping the new settlers established themselves, and sugar cane production became the dominant industry in the area. A sugar cane refinery was established in 1908 and named Imperial Sugar. The plant contributed greatly to the development of the area and community. In 1959, the community became an incorporated city.
